What to expect

Pickup & Departure

Your private vehicle picks you up from your hotel or airport. Aim for an 8:30 AM start to beat the Mumbai heat and afternoon crowds.

Arrival at SGNP Gate

Reach the main gate of Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali. Your driver/guide will handle the park entry permits.

The Forest Drive:

Enjoy a scenic 20-minute drive through the dense forest of the National Park. Keep an eye out for deer and peacocks along the road.

Meeting Your Guide

Meet your professional guide at the base of the caves (if not already with you). They will provide a brief overview of the "Krishnagiri" (Black Mountain) history.

The Grand Chaitya (Cave 3)

Start with the most spectacular cave. Marvel at the 7-meter tall Buddha statues and the massive prayer hall with its ancient stone pillars.

Viharas & Monastic Life

Explore the smaller residential caves. See the rock-cut beds and water cisterns that once served as a "university" for Buddhist monks.

Ancient Inscriptions

Stop to look at the Brahmi and Sanskrit inscriptions on the walls. Your guide will explain how these records helped historians map ancient trade routes.

The Hilltop Trek (Optional)

If you're feeling active, follow the trail to the higher caves. The views of the forest canopy against the Mumbai skyline are breathtaking.

Nature & Photos

Take some time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The sounds of the forest provide a sharp, beautiful contrast to the city's usual noise.

Return Journey

Walk back down to the parking area. Relax in your AC vehicle as you are driven out of the park and dropped back at your location.
