Museum Of Christian Art
Tucked away in the historic heart of Old Goa, within the ancient walls of the Convent of Santa Monica, lies the Museum of Christian Art, a treasure trove that whispers tales of a bygone era. As you step into this venerable space, you're enveloped by the rich aroma of aged wood and the soft glow of natural light filtering through centuries-old windows. Here, in this sacred enclave, you'll discover an exquisite collection of Christian artifacts that date back to the 16th century, each piece a testament to the unique fusion of Portuguese and Indian craftsmanship. The museum is a sensory journey, where intricately embroidered vestments and chalices made from precious metals gleam under the light, and carved ivory statues seem to come alive with their serene expressions. The air is thick with history, and every artifact tells a story of how Hindu artists, under Portuguese patronage, created a distinct style of Christian art that is both reverent and uniquely Goan. As you wander through these hallowed halls, you're not just viewing artifacts; you're experiencing the very soul of Goa's cultural heritage.

Amazing Service
The museum is located in a restored convent dating back hundreds of years. The building, and church that is incorporated, are lovely and the museum offers an informed and interesting insight into the Christian faith. It is only small but has an excellent collection of religious artefacts to view. The staff are very helpful and we were fortunate to be the only visitors at the time. The museum is well worth a visit if you are in Velha Goa.
Good Service
What a surprise: a small museum of great quality, perfectly clean and friendly staff. Very modest entry fee and small shop.... Entrance is right after the Santa Monica church and in fact the museum is installed in the other part of the church. Beautiful religious artefacts from around Goa dating from 17th to 20th century: in gold, silver, precious wood or ivory. Must to be seen while visiting Old Goa!
Amazing Service
The museum's collection is beautifully installed, with great lighting. We booked a tour, which exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Benjamin Monserrate, is a very knowledgeable and engaging curatorial associate. Don't miss this wonderful collection, and be sure to book a tour.
